So you are ready for some keto smoothie recipes? Ugh I get it. I have been on a smoothie kick for a few weeks now and I am super excited to share some tips with you to make the keto diet a whole lot easier.

WHAT IS THE KETO DIET?

The keto diet is a diet where you focus on very low carb, moderate protein, and high fat food. By starving the body of carbs, your body is pushed into ketosis where you begin to burn fat first, which can result in weight loss. The keto diet is very successfully used for weight loss and has an array of other health benefits as well.

Feel free to check out some of these scientific studies to see what happened when subjects were put on a ketogenic diet:

Alright, now that we have all of THAT out of the way- let’s talk keto smoothie recipes!

HOW TO MAKE A KETO SMOOTHIE?

There are three main steps to making a keto smoothie:

  1. Start with the right base

Pick a low carb liquid of your choice. I love using unsweetened almond milk or unsweetened coconut milk.

  2. Pick your flavor

Get creative with this business. Some of my favorite keto smoothie recipes include chocolate and nut flavors. I usually have frozen berries on hand as well to add to vanilla keto smoothies. Be sure to use berries with caution because they can sometimes have hidden carbs! Stick with a few strawberries, raspberries, or blackberries. Just a few berries can change the taste of the keto smoothie significantly, so don’t worry about not adding enough!

  3. Choose your add- ins

This is a really important step. You want to make sure your keto smoothie has enough fat and protein. I use Perfect Keto collagen powder because it makes my smoothies SO creamy and has added MCT, a lot of protein, and 1g of carbs per scoop.

To get your added fat- I use MCT oil powder, it has 7g fat per scoop and 0 g net carbs! Hey oh, best of both worlds!

HOW DO I SAVE TIME WITH KETO SMOOTHIES?

You guys, this is my FAVORITE tip for keto smoothies. I have hacked the system, y’all and I want to share it with you. I have at LEAST 5 keto smoothies on hand at all times that can be ready in less than 3 minutes with virtually no cleanup- this means no blender washing baby!

  • I double the batch of keto smoothies at the beginning of the week (usually Sunday for me).

  • Blend em all up on Sunday (I double/triple the recipe in my fave Ninja blender).

  • Pour into freezer ziploc bags in individual portions

  • Lay flat in the freezer so they don’t take up much room and also makes sure they thaw quickly

  • Toss them in the freezer for the WHOLE week

  • Take out in the morning to begin thawing- throw in the fridge when you get to work or put them in the fridge overnight to be ready for breakfast

  • Pour into cup at lunch/breakfast/snack time for a delicious keto smoothie

  • If still too frozen, run the bag under warm water for about 2 minutes to thaw quicker

  • Drink em up WITHOUT a dirty dish in the sink!

WHAT INGREDIENTS DO I NEED FOR A KETO SMOOTHIE?

  1. Start with a good blender. I use my Ninja blender and its amazing. We have had it for 4 years and use it a ton. It has held its value and is always super reliable.
P.S. This one comes with smoothie cups!

  2. Pick an adorable smoothie cup. Here is one that is reusable and perfect for an on the go keto smoothie. Here is a disposable option if you want to save time on dishes.

  3. Choose an add in to increase fat in the smoothie and add protein to keep you full much longer! I love Perfect Keto Collagen Powder because it is full of good fat, and promotes healthy skin, nails and hair. You can also use MCT Powder to increase healthy fat and help you stay full longer

  4. Low carb liquid such as unsweetened almond or coconut milk. Both are low in calories and low in carbs!

  5. Low carb sweetener can be added if desired. Most of the recipes below, however, are sweet enough even without adding a low carb sweetener! If you want one, you can get my favorite low carb sweetener here.

  6. Optional add ins:
-collagen powder (promotes healthy skin, nails and hair)

-keto whey protein powder (adds protein without adding carbs)

-keto friendly nut butter (because its delicious!)

-exogenous base (fights symptoms of the keto flu, you can read more about it here.)
